Is there anywhere in Auckland that you can buy the New zealand memory maps for TOM TOM? We need to get a new card for ours rather thann trying to download the maps. One of the (many) things that we should have done before coming out and didn't.

I was just coming to post a similar question, so hope you don't mind me gatecrashing yours :).
OH has got a TOM TOM Go 300 - is there any way to get New Zealand details? Or, like Hels above, can he do this when he gets over? Don't even know if it's possible, but would like to explore all avenues before maybe having to buy a new one when he lands (he's going to need it, I'm sure!)

Hi Hels,
Sorry I can't help with the Tom Tom question - I was just wondering, have you posted the 'things I should have done before I left' list anywhere? I'd love to benefit from your experience.

What's the difference between buying the maps and downloading them? You can buy 'em from the TomTom website, but you still have to download 'em.

I think it's actually more expensive to buy maps from a shop as you have to pay for the cost of the memory card, packaging etc. I was able to download NZ maps onto the remaining internal memory on my TomTom 720 with plenty to spare.

I bought the NZ map for my GO300 and downloaded it successfully but unfortunately my gizmo cannot see any satellites so now I can't use the flippin' thing! :(

Sorry guys, just a quick update. In sheer desperation, we have ended up buying another full tom tom, we went to "Dick Smith", and we weren't able to get just the maps. It seemed very extravigant, but as I said we were desperate.

That's very odd - maybe something wrong with the GPS receiver? I know mine took some time to lock onto enough satellites to get a fix. Have you tried monitoring the GPS screen? Can it get a timestamp on that screen (meaning it gets at least one satellite)?

I downloaded the maps to my TomTom from the UK so that we could use it as soon as we arrived in NZ. Unfortunately when I turned it on, changed the map to NZ and drove off to our destination it took a good 30 minutes to find a satellite!
I think that it got confused as to where the satellites were as it didn't expect to be on the other side of the world as it takes less than 30 seconds nowadays!
