Right then, just back in the house. Here's the low down:
X-Rays - 10am Oppointment at the Bupa Hospital Edinburgh - Dr Wightman
Arrived early (9.45) and was asked to take a seat and double check some personal details and sign a form for their records.
I was then shown to a changing room and asked to strip to the waist and put on a snazzy blue gown and wrap up in a fluffy bath robe while I wait in the seated area. Duncan was asked to go straight into the X-Ray room and just took his top off in there. The nurse signed the photos on the certificate and asked us to sign in the appropriate place. When Duncan was finished, I was asked to come in, and it only took about 3 mins. I got dressed then went off to pay the nice chap at the desk, while Dr Wightman completed our reports (all normal). Cost was £70.50 each (cards accepted). Dr Wightman is a very nice chap and handed us a big brown envelope each which contained our 'photo' and report.
Meds - 16.40 - Leven Medical Centre Edinburgh - Dr Foster.
Didn't get seen till 16.50, but Dr Foster is very nice and approachable. Quite chatty really. I was asked to go in first, and Duncan was asked to go and pee in a tube. She went through the form and it was the first time she had seen the new version. We planned to hand in the form after April 4th, but when she worked out the extra blood test cost, we decided against it... it would have cost £150 each just for the blood tests :eek We then discussed the new requirements and she was not happy about the introduction of giving internal exams. She hasn't thought about her pricing structure, but will be discussing it with the othe Edinburgh based approved Doc to see what they are going to do. I would say it's likely she'll put her costs up in the near future. At the moment it costs £80 for the medical and £30 for the blood test (just recently increased from £15).
The exam consisted of a prod on the stomach (mentioned my moles, but as I've had no probs she wasn't concerned), reflexes, twisting your leg (no idea why?) breathing in and out while she listened to chest and back. I didn't have a breast exam and Duncan didn't have a happy sac test either.
I then went off to pee while she started on Duncan (oohh err Mrs! :P ) Blood tests were done, as were a very quick eye test, weight, height and BMI.
She says it takes a week for the results to come back and she'll send them recorded delivery. Dr Foster only takes cheques (no cards....oops  ).
She kept the X-Ray report and other forms. We kept our X-Ray photos.
All in all, quite a painless and easy process. For those waiting till after April 4th I'd double check the cost of the blood tests as this is an additional cost to the actual medical.
Any questions just shout.
