Did you read the comments after the article - not the kindest people or comments. I don't understand why anybody would log on to the Daily Blah just to leave harsh comments?

They were on our local news the other night - I'm not sure if it's the right way to go or whether it's best to just knock the 10k off the asking price - but if nothing else it has got them national exposure hopefully, it won't give out the message that the housing market has reached rock bottom desperation?

Mostly they seemed to be having a dig cos they thought the house was overvalued and the couple were deluding themselves that it was worth more. In the present market you have to be very realistic with pricing, as we all know, but some people just can't bring themselves to drop their prices to the levels that the buyers would pay.

do not get me started even if you drop your price £55k to date and potentially another £50k it does not guarantee you a buyer this is our case and several people locally there are not the buyers houses here have gone out of reach of local buyers so the only buyers are those from up country jobs are few and far between and with petrol costs soaring who wants to live rural and remote with those expenses. True houses should be realistic but that is always the case even in a good market but there is more to it than that! rant over

I guess that you'll all be feeling sorry for her too?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1034228/Heartbreak-home-One-womans-blow-blow-account-like-trying-sell-house-credit-crunch.html

On £18K a year, 3 kids at private school, spent £90K 'doing the house nice' , runs a BMW X3 and now whining that she's in debt and can't make ends meet ... now, surprise, surprise she can't sell her house... and she wants sympathy? What planet is she on?

No-one said anything about feeling sorry for them, although some can empathise with the lack of buyers about for the 1st gentleman.
I was surprised on the 1st article that people took the effort to log on to Daily Tory just to 'have a go'. Seems a waste of time or nothing better to do. - think its more of reflection on the people rather than what sales tactic used.

Sorry but I can't, empathise that is... log on to rightmove and check 4 bed detached house prices in his area.. £199K is about the median with maybe another 30% for a cottage... his price appears to be way in excess of RMV...

As for the comments I'd guess that the article was noticed by one of the housepricecrash type websites who's members, usually FTBs who can't afford a property, can be both active and vitriolic..

that people are getting desperate to sell their house. Found this one on TradeMe (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=159619218) recently...

Most I've looked at on TRademe have given up putting a price, about 70% of the ones in the area I'm looking at say 'by negotiation'.

... and have also noticed that a lot more properties are going up for auction, at least in our area (Hibiscus Coast)...

there are not the buyers, houses here have gone out of reach of local buyers

That is exactly my point, Janey. The houses have to come back within reach of the local buyers, and they will begin to sell again. There are always buyers, but the product (be it a car, house or loaf of bread) has to be in their price range.

If those of you that are having trouble selling in the UK were to break even on your houses, ie make no profit, just cover your legal and agent fees, would you have buyers?
