Hi everyone,

Originally from Cambridge I've been in Wellington for a couple of months now, got a job in IT and submitted my EOI a few weeks ago, fingers crossed. Must say Wellington's a pretty cool place, so chilled out and loads of stuff to do, views over the harbour on a clear day are pretty good too.

Anyone know if there's any Wellington meets coming up?

Cheers

Ed

Hi and welcome to the Forum. We're in Auckland so can't help with a meet up but I'm sure some of the Wellington based forumites will be along soon to say hi.

Hey edster,
Welcome! Quick question if you dont mind. How did you find the IT market in Welly.
We are not looking to move yet, but curious as to what the market is like, what skills you think they are looking for?

Thanks and welcome again!

Hi Ed

I've also been in Wellington for a few months and work in IT. I submitted my ITA to the Wellington branch in mid May and received the approval last week. Good luck with your application.

Wellington is great and there is always something sociable going on to cater for everyone's idea of fun from dining groups to dancing. Once you tap into the networks, you will be spoilt for choice :nice1

Cheers for all the welcomes guys :)

John,

There's jobs going in pretty much all fields of IT, the key thing is having experience, naturally a relevent degree also helps. It seems that kiwis are pretty keen to head off as soon as they're out of uni or once they've worked for a year or two, Oz is a popular choice as the money's better, also the UK. For this reason there's plenty of jobs going particularly if you've got about 5 years experience in your field. Personally I work on the Cisco side of things which seems to be in demand at the moment. The IT section of the company I work for is about 20 strong, about 10 are kiwi and the rest are UK South Africa, Holland etc.

Cheers

Hey there

I'm an IT Recruitment Consultant - currently based in Bristol in the UK.

I just found out today from the tracker that my VISA has been approved and I'm transferring to our Wellington office at the beginning of September.

Our paths may cross soon enough!
