Spoke with two different people from NZIS on Friday and got two totally different answers to my questions :uhoh So I'm going to ask people IMHO know what they're talking about :D
I've got a meeting on Tuesday to finalise a job description, sign contracts, etc. What I found out from NZIS was that to work in NZ I have to apply for a work permit. As I am already waiting for my ITA to arrive how do the two things affect each other?
Has anyone else done this please? What is the process for obtaining a work permit to then gain PR through an ITA?? Obviously, I need to start work sooner rather than later but is it worth my just doing the ITA and attaching a job offer to it? My understanding is that if I gain PR from ITA then I wont need a work permit, is this correct??
I'm confused and wishing I hadn't begun this whole chasing this dream malarky a bit. :exit

Yep they can run concurrently. You MUST NOT start working before you get your work permit. Ask your employer for a letter stating when they want you to start, to put a fire under NZIS' bum, hopefully that should help. ;) I got mine in 2 weeks, but a friend of mine got his in 1 week. Same branch, just a month earlier.

Hi M-squared, can I ask if your employers filled in the 'Employers Supplementary Form' for you? I'm still a bit confused about the logistics of it all, as this wasn't a place we thought we'd find ourselves in really.

Our ITA had been submitted and progressing but the blue stickers weren't going to come through in time for OH's job start date in NZ. Sooo.... he submitted a work permit application cross referencing to the ITA so no need for further police checks, medicals etc. Fortunately he worked in central London so was able to pop along to NZ House to get the work permit put in his passport before he flew out. If I remember correctly it was all processed within a week.
He then flew back approx. a month later to collect me and DS and we all went along to NZ House to have the blue stickers put in the passports 3 days before we flew out!

Hi Genie
I haven't received my ITA, so I have applied for WTR visa because I'm getting short on time. I've sent in my medical and police check, so when the ITA does arrive, I have been told that they will contact the office that issued my visa to get that info (as long as it's not past the 3 and 6 months expiry). I did request my employer to fill out the Employer's Supplementary Form (and they actually had it sent to me within the hour of my request!)
I wasn't sure exactly what to send them, but here is a list of it:
-medical and chest x-ray certificate
-criminal record search certificate
-employer supplementary form
-job description
-employment contract
-certificate of registration qualifications - New Zealand
-certificate of registration qualifications - Canada
-letter of good standig with professional body
-letters of employment (the ones that have your dates of employment)
-work experience
-current CV
-references
Good luck with everything!
:)
