I looked at the threads and took quite a while deciding which bank was right for me. I decided on asb however once I had a look at the evidence I had to provide with the paperwork I ended up giving up. I had to get my copies of the bank account etc verified by my bank. However they would not stamp it as it was not their documents...so basically far too much trouble than it was worth.
I do no personally see why i need to get documents verified when I have to be there in person with my passport to use it anyway!
So i went with my second choice Kiwibank. They did not require any silly verification of documents, just copies! So I was able to scan and email my forms and I had an account openend and waiting for me the following day in my email inbox.
Cheers Kiwibank!

Any reason why you chose ASB 1st? I keep thinking they are all similar from what I can find out. Kiwibank was going to be my choice, but not for any particular reason.

I ended up with Westpac. I was originally going to go for Kiwibank but one of the things they wanted was a bit difficult for me. Westpac was easy and it was all set up in one day. Just need to put some money in now. :D

Just a little curios about your 'problem' opening an ASB account as we found it very easy without any problems?
When you open an account at ASB they only want the following:-
SUPPLY the following:
> Original Utility Bill - with your name(s), current address and no more than 3 months old
> Original Bank/Building Society Statement - with your name(s), current address and no more than 3 months old
> Certified Photocopy of your Passport(s) - information page including photo and Visa (if approved)
> Certified Photocopy of your full Driving Licence(s) - additional requirement for Non-UK residents only
Why did you need different information from the above, or did you not have some of this?

They wanted the passport certified by a bank official. It had to be my bank and they would not stamp it as the documents were not theirs. That was my particular problem.
