I got an email this morning stating that they were not going to send me an ITA. They dropped my points from 190 to 55 because they say I don't have a recognized qualification! :( Just hoping someone is asleep at the wheel on this one and I may continue to fight them on this aspect.
But I do have my WTR visa though and will be leaving in September.
What I would like to know is, will there be any big difference in my general life if I have WTR visa as opposed to PR? The only thing I could maybe think of is that it could affect health care costs if anything were to arise.
Still keeping my chin up!

Oh, Leanne - what a downer! I do so hope you're right and someone has just made a monumental blunder. Good luck for your fight.
What is the qualification that they're calling into question?
Surely with WTR, as you have the right to live and work in the country, you'd be eligible for normal full access to the NZ health service? Someone will be along who knows, I'm sure.

As long as your visa is for at least 2 years then there is no difference in your entitlement to health care in NZ.
There won't be a big difference for most people, if you have children who want to attend tertiary education then they would have to pay international fees and of course you won't have started the clock ticking towards an IRRV or citizenship.

I'm a radiographer and I have had my qualifications assessed by the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technolgists Board and have registration and am legally entitled to work in the country.
Thanks for letting me know that there really won't be any difference in anything.
Planning on drinking many margaritas this weekend!!! Hopefully that will make me feel better.

Oh, for heaven's sake... It HAS to be somebody's stupid mistake, surely, if your own profession within the country says it's all right, doesn't it?
Anyway, you're still in, with your WTR!:cheers:clap

Think it must be a mistake Leanne - is the board on list of professional bodies? OH had to register to work with MLS Board and they had to assess his qualifications and all was fine with NZIS :yes
At least you've got WTR and can apply for PR later
Best of luck

Thanks for the support.
After being so upset yesterday and nearly in tears, I have gone to being quite fired up about the situation. So even though I'm heading over on my WTR, I think I'm ready to fight them on this, if nothing more than to prove the point that they are totally wrong!

Are you saying that you had a NZQA and that they didn't recognise/allocate points for your quals?
Or just that the quals that you mentioned on your EOI weren't recognised by NZ immigration? If that's the case then they should have told you to get them assessed by NZQA.
If NZQA did assess them but didn't rate them highly enough then you may appeal if you strongly disagree.
Hope that helps to make the situation a little clearer. Let us know so we can advise you further.
Definatly keep your chin up no matter what the situation. :yes

I didn't have a NZQA because I filled in that I had it assessed by the occupational registration body who are actually the ones who granted me my registration so that I can work in the country.
They didn't ask me to get anything assessed. They just told me I was rejected with no explanation. When I questioned them further about NZQA, I was told I would need to get that done.
I hear that NZQA takes quite a while to get done and I'll already be in NZ by then. And I'd have to get new medicals and police checks. So for the time being, I'm going to let it go and be happy with my WTR.

Leanne,
Sorry to hear about the set back. I've just sent off my documents to be assessed by my equivalent registration body, Society of Cardiopulmonary Technology. Little nervous about how that's going to work out, since it doesn't seem to be on the list of recognized qualifications.
Anyway, keep your chin up. You can still get there. No doubt you'll get PR once you've got your feet in the country.
Cheers,
-Brian*

Well, I imagine you need to be assessed to get registered with your profession, so you need that done first. But do be prepared in case you need the NZQA. I was not expecting that at all. But I do have to say that getting the WTR was quite painless and taken care of in just a few weeks. Always good to have a plan B ready, just in case. I hope things go easily for you Brian.
And I am going to get there...flights are booked...and visa is umm not quite in my hands yet...but hopefully by next week. :yes
