This site could be of use to those travelling to NZ and not wanting to do the B&B / hotel bit. Also usefull for short term rentals when job hunting for instance.

Whoops, sorry. It is set on the Tauranga page as that is where I was last looking. But it does cover many other areas too.

Baches are holiday homes, and are usually near a beach, a lake, or some other resort-type of location. They used to be fairly basic accommodation, but with the increase in coastal land values they are often as good as a regular house, sometimes a lot better. Renting one $hort term can cost anywhere from about $300 per week, up to thousands per week, depending on the time of year, location, and the property itself.
Most Aucklanders book one on the Coromandel Peninsula, if they're into that sort of accommodation.

Sleepouts tend to be either a small building like a garage with bedrooms in it in the garden, or a filled in verandah.

Waiheke is an alternative to Coromandel or Bay of Islands as a getaway from Auckland, and its only $100 and 40 mins on the ferry.
Bachs seem to be around the $100-$1000 per night. I'ld guess you'ld need to book for Easter now, if it's not already too late.

Sarah. My wife Sarah and I stayed here http://www.kuaotunubay.co.nz/
at this time last year. We can highly recomend it.
If you dont want to do B&B, they also have a self contained unit (we used it) at a reasonable rate.
