You are not covered by health care in NZ unless your visa is for 2 years or more so you are advised to get health insurance.

If you are coming from the UK then you will be covered for emergency treatment (only) for the first 12 months (If I remember correctly).

Whether you need insurance is your choice (sounds like a good idea to me though)?
