Hi,

Just done some looking at different banks to try and decide who to go with. Westpac is looking the best with the fee-free paperless everyday account and their Mastercard/Visa looks exactly the same to what we are used to at the moment. It is also convenient for us as when we come back to Oz to visit we can use westpac ATMs for no extra fee.
So with all the advantages now listed. Does anybody have any feedback about their experience with Westpac???

I've posted on here many times about the banks.

All are pretty good and all (I think) offer a paper free/fee free account (we use ASB, they certainly do).

Westpac have a slight advatage at present in being the only bank to offer a 'visa lite' card and if you can use their ATM's back in Oz then that would seem to be the clincher to me.

I bank with Westpac, and I have no complaints about them, but they do charge you for using ATMs abroad, including in Australia according to my statement from a visit a couple of weeks ago. This was using my Eftpos card to withdraw money - there were no additional charges when using my visa debit card in stores.

Did you use a Westpac ATM??? heres's an extract from their website:

Using an ATM overseas*
cash withdrawals NZ$8.00
balance enquiry 60c
declined transaction 60c
Note: foreign currency fees also apply - see Debit cards fees section.
*These fees do not apply when using ATMs within the Global Alliance Group in the respective country shown. Institutions participating in the global ATM alliance include Deutshe Bank 24 (Germany), Bank of America (United States), Scotiabank (Canada), Barclays Bank (United Kingdom), BNP Paribas (France), Westpac (Australia) and Westpac (New Zealand).

Yep - that's why I was so shocked to see the charges on my account! I've never had them before, or at least I've never noticed them before...

Yes, cant fault them one bit.

We moved our mortgage over in December last year as i had a better rate, working for the DHB, then moved over our savings account and credit card, again getting a better deal. We have since now changed our house, contents and car insurance over.

My employer has an Employer Pac with them (you should look into this if possible!), so I naturally gravitated to them. So far, no reason to be disappointed - I am increasing business with them with a car loan and probably insurance as well.
