Just a funny story I thought some of you would enjoy.
I'm applying to a New Zealand professional society to have my credentials recognized and have spent the last couple of weeks gathering all of my documents. Last night I finally got it all together (crossing fingers), and this morning, my wife took the big fat envelope to the local post office for me.
She walked up to the counter, and as she was sealing the envelope said, "This is going to New Zealand." To which the clerk replied, "Really?!" Thinking he was being funny, she said jokingly, "Yeah, you know, 'Lord of the Rings?'" No reaction. As if she was posting a letter to Mars.
This may be the biggest city in Western Colorado, but sometimes I forget that it's still pretty small. *sigh* I'm just a little concerned now that my package might not actually make it to NZ...
Cheers,
-Brian*

when I was studying my degree in USA, I do have a feeling that many of my friends don't know the world geography well.....

I have a solution to your delimma.. Ship with UPS, FED EX or use USPS Global Priority Mail....:laugh
My old friend from high school said to me over email "Wow you now live in New Zealand! Sooo where's that??".
Yes some Americans have some tunnel vision-itis when it comes to geography
Cheers...

Back when I was in my early 20's and did a bit of travelling in the US in response to the reply that I came from England I got asked "which State is that in?" I think I was so gobsmacked I didn't manage a coherent response! :laugh

Yea the Priority mail envelope with USPS is ~$11 and will get to NZ in about a week (from my experience), you just have to use the flat rate envelope.

FWIW, I registered at the local post office in Denver to have my mail forwarded to Wellington when I moved, and I've been receiving forwarded mail. No extra charge or anything, same forms and everything as if I were moving to another address in the U.S.

US is too big, so many (not all) have limited ideas about outside world.
When I was in college, an american friend of mine said that Indonesia is really2 close to China...and I said, "Dude, I even know where state of Alaska is!" and he replied..."oh yeah, we have alaska" LOL....

Seriously?!! If so, I'll have to make a point of loading up on magazine subscriptions before we move! ;)

Brian:
Several years ago, I tried mailing a book back home to New Mexico from a suburban post office just north of New York City. New Mexico, as you surely are aware, is the large-ish (US) state between Texas and Arizona, right? Well, the postal clerk did not seem to be cognicent of this fact and was quite insistent that I needed to use the International Express Mail packaging to ship the book. In hindsight, I think I should have threatened to go to my embassy and lodge complaint. :laugh

just to balance things out, there are plenty of people all over the world whose sense of geography is less than perfect...
if anyone from the UK used to watch Big Brother they should remember the statement "East Anglia? Isn't that abroad?" :laugh

Brian - Unfortunately, the USPS doesn't forward magazines or catalogs for you. Dunno why, seems silly to me.
