Can anyone recommend a hairdresser in central Auckland/Parnell/Newmarket?
I'm starting to look a bit too hippy like so need to bite the bullet.

Servilles are a good salon - they have branches in both the CBD (in Chancery) and Newmarket. I used to go to them, but my hairdresser moved salon and I went with her. She's Frances at Durham Hair in the city if you want a recommendation - I have been getting my hair done by her for the last 5 years now.
My friend recommends Stephen Marr in Newmarket, who has a good reputation, and you can have a manicure or pedicure at the same time there.

They're pretty standard for Auckland prices though - I'm sure that I pay similar at my salon. I'm terrible in that I just get my eftpos card swiped and never look at the total...
(Who do you use MM?)

Thanks for the recommendations girls.
Prices are about the same as the UK. My hairdresser charged about half what I make a day as a consultant (although I'm new at it, and start next week). I used to get a huge student discount but then got used to him and ended up using him for 6 years. I'm so nervous about the change. :(
I'll have to stay scruffy til after OH gets paid on Friday though!

So any recommendations for any hairdressers on the North Shore? I'm prepared to spend a bit to get somebody who really, really knows what they are doing in terms of cutting.
Thanks in advance,
Anneliese

Apologies, just had another look and I obviously can't count. Yes, this has just confirmed I pay far too much to get my hair done :o
Funnily enough, I'm going for a cut and colour tomorrow. Going back to brunette as I can't afford the upkeep of blonde hair!

hmm are there any cheap and cheerful hairdressers in Auckland/North Shore?
my hair style takes 5 minutes to cut and I'm not fussed about having the same stylist of a friendly chat or a cup of coffee, I just want them to chop the extra bit off and let me get on with the rest of my day :D (and I'm a terrible cheapskate, but that's not the point!)

I had mine cut yesterday on the Devonport Ferry Wharf - cost a grand total of $15 (for a men's cut - $20 for a ladies').
It does make me wonder why I used to spend 40 pounds on a cut in the UK!

...in fact I've just returned from a visit, and I love the look! Everyone at work has been commenting .
A really friendly bunch. Not the cheapest (I pay about $90, slightly more than the place I used to go to in Howick) but I think very reasonable for the quality and you get the fringe cut for free between 'major' appointments.
They're at the foot of West Plaza - phone (09) 3779030
Hope that helps!

Toni & Guy are good too - High Street CBD or Newmarket (my daughter works in that branch! :D) http://www.toniandguy.co.nz/

OH uses Toni & Guy but only because my work pays for it (I get a card loaded up with $2,000 that has to be used in the year (or I lose it) on health & wellbeing type expenditure - OH then takes card off me to spend on massages, beauty treatments and haircuts as if she feels good then my health & wellbeing will be so much better!)
But Toni & Guy is recommended by OH - although it is a little pricey if you have to pay for it yourself!

It does make me wonder why I used to spend 40 pounds on a cut in the UK! Been a few years since I had a hair cut but was costing around a fiver then ... Then again almost fainted when my neighbour told me he paid 65 dollars the other day. Must be behind the times

For a cheap 'do' I go to Sisters with Scissors at Silverdale - $10 kids, $15 men and $20 for ladies. No frills but does the job:nice1

A tad, incredible hulse, a tad :D Mind you, I remember having my hair cut in Bond Street in 1985 (yes, 24 years ago!) and paying, er, ahem, £110..THEN!!!

I know this is a bit late, but I can enthusiastically recommend the Mission Bay branch of Servilles...a bit on the pricey side (though not when you consider the quality) and they are all so nice and friendly. Got the best colour and cut of my life in there. :)
