Just set up my new rural delivery address and post service yesterday, as we are house sitting at the moment and then planning to live in a caravan on the building site, so it seemed easiest just to get our post sent there from now on.

Anyway, just have a few questions - is the rural delivery service any different to normal post? Is it more expensive? Will people sending parcels from the Uk have to pay more for example? If I order stuff on the internet will I have to pay more for postage? Is it just as reliable?

Cheers

Sam

Hi there
we are also on a RD service, it's just the same as normal post service, with only a few changes, you can get envelopes, stamps etc from your postie, they will pick up outgoing mail from your box as long as you put your "flag" up. Incoming post costs no more for others, we are still receiving redirected post from UK courtesy of Royal Mail!!. The only time being rural costs more is when you are having things delivered by a courier service, purchases on Trade Me etc.
Hope that helps

Sorry I did not answer your reliability question...........
It's just as reliable, in fact our postie is so good that when he had a package that needed signing for, it was our passports coming back from Immigration in Wellington!, and he knew we were at work, he brought them to us, 13 kilometers from our house, in the next town. That's what I call good service, don't think Royal Mail would do the same, all you would get from them would be a card saying it was back at the sorting office.

Some postie don't bring parcels, that doesn't fit inside your mailbox, to your house, just simple left behind hedge next to your gate if you got gate. If wet, postie will put inside huge plastic bag!! You need to return plastic bag back to postie by put in the mailbox ready for postie next morning after remove parcels!

Check with rural delivery about rule on where you suppose to put your mailbox because in rural areas, should be allow space for postie's car park next to mailbox so postie can open mailbox to delivery while he/she still in the car!!:laugh

:laugh Too right, Sophia! When we first moved here (first rural home in NZ) I got wound up every morning as it looked as if someone had driven all over our verge and there were tyre tracks... :roll t'was the postie!! I hadn't realised they don't get out of their car and stick the post in to your postbox through their car window! :laugh

Perhaps my postie is more considerate than others, I've had no problems at all, but then our box sits right at the edge of the roadway so he has no need to drive on the grass. Best you speak directly to him/her and sort out the best position for your box.
