I don't have a car, no plans to get one, and live close to U. auckland. is there another grocery store nearby (walking distance) to get my groceries other than the hugely overpriced foodtown on quay??

you can try the asian supermarket on k road, they are selling cheap fruit and veggies but quite expensive for the other stuff though...

New World in Victoria Park runs a free bus service. May be worth checking out if it stops somewhere convienient to you?
It's a far better supermarket than Foodtown on Quay Street, with a much greater variety of food, and better prices.
