I already have a bit of experience in software/programming.

Ais, St, helens, Auckland offers an internship at the end. Would this internship be useful in obtaining a project work at a decent It/software company? OR is CPIT, Christchurch better than AIS?

Comparison of living expenses between the two cities Auckaland and Christchurch? Assuming accomodation is cheaper in Christchurch, would other day to day expenses(food, transportation) be similar for both cities?

What would be the average living expenses for a student for both cities and how much would be the difference?

Is Christchurch an upcoming place for IT/software industry? What are the chances of finding a job in IT/software in Christchurch in compariosn to Auckland? Is Christchurch a growing market for It jobs?

Any help would be much appreciated.

There has been a lot of discussion on the threads about living expenses, and also on the merits of various places to live. Have you tried doing a search (button on the blue bar above) on any of these topics? That should give you a lot of leads to start your information gathering process.

You could judge the job prospects here:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-me-jobs/index.htm

My impression is that the IT jobs in Christchurch are more engineering based, electronics and that sort of thing whereas those in Auckland are more 'traditional' IT positions. Cost of living is probably lower in Chch. Public transport is good in Chch but almost non-existent outside the city.

With the world market being what it is, I don't fancy your chances of a job in Chch or anywhere else just now. Wellington might be a good bet, full of highly paid civil servants for whom the market economy means nothing; we just keep paying them anyway!

Thank you. I tried a few searches here but not many appropriate results. I'm looking from a student point of view( not a family) things like homestays ...... and other expenses... and part time jobs(preferably IT).

Thank you for answering.

How much would be the cost difference for both cities ?

For Something like homestay assuming other expenses are same for both cities.

It would be nice if you could provide me some real figures for homestay cost per week.

Also are there more number of IT jobs in Auckland? Would it make a difference to the number of jobs in near future(increase in number of jobs) if the government of New Zealand is promoting Canterbury as a IT hub?
