Since arriving I've been buying the Blackball Black Puds - they're lovely. However, I've found a better black pud and it's sold at the Oxford Butchery - apparently it's made by a Scots guy in the village. It's beautiful! (It's not on display, you have to ask him to get it from the freezer :nice1 ). Yummmmm!

Won't ever compare to the puds my Dad/Granddad used to get tho - from Bury I think...

I'm not alone in thinking black pudding is vile, am I?... In the US they call it "blood pudding" just to make it extra 'specially appealing. :D

Glad you like it though, Helen! :) :nice1

From Bury Market (http://www.buryblackpuddings.co.uk) probably. Can't abide the things myself, but my Dad claims they're the best.

I introduced 2 young kids to the joys of black pud last weekend - told them exactly what it was - and they woofed it down :D

Would LOVE to make my own but I just can't bring myself to having seen it being done... :o

Another Black Pudding (http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=14118) thread with some more advice on where to get decent black pudding from.

This is something I've always missed here. I tell my Canadian friends about it (and variations) and the response is always yuck! I tell them they need to try it for themselves. My mother used to smuggle some back with her whenever she went back home for a visit. Happy to see it's available there.

In Finland we also call it blood pudding and I LOVE the stuff (have since a little kid). No I am not a vampire:p We also have black sausages and black pancakes. They are all quite easy to make if only one can buy blood from the supermarket or butchers. Available easily in NZ?!

Bury, the spiritual home of black pudding.

When football fans went through a faze of all having inflatable things to wave (started by Man City who had inflatable banana's) Bury had inflatable black puddings.

I love black pudding, but OH won't touch it. When living out of a hotel in Edinburgh for 4 months I had black pudding and haggis for breakfast almost every day.

Yum.

Granary toast with a thick black pudding slice on top, then a poached egg atop that. Sprig of parsley if you're looking to impress friends. Fab breakfast - or any other time of day for that matter.

Spectacular.

:yes Oh a cooked brekkie isn't the same without black pud!!

I'm another scallop and black pud fan - great warm salad! Last night we stuffed chicken breasts with black pud and had on garlic mash with kumara croquettes *drool* - I'm having black pud and mushrooms on toast for lunch today :D *sharpens fangs*
