Hi, I'm not too sure about how the WTR differs from the General Work visa. I have the latter one (Gen. Work visa) As it is stamped on my passport, it says mainly that we have been given multiple entry into NZ up to a certain date. (In our case, 30 months. from the date of issue) It states that we must not arrive after the visa date but can arrive any time as long as the visa is active.
There is also another issue about activating the immigrant visa. That I know you will have a limited time to activate it, then you may come and leave NZ as you please.

OH has now got his WTR (changed over from general work visa) and the wording just states that he can't arrive AFTER the last date of his visa.
If it's of any help, the wording and title of a WTR visa is exactly the same as a general work visa - it's just shorter in length of stay.

Don't get confused here between the types of WTR, you are right that a standard WTR that you apply for just lists how long that it is valid for.
Unfortunately the WTR Kamal is asking about is the one that is given to those applicants who apply for a PR but NZIS aren't sure will be able to settle so only offer them a WTR instead.
Generally if you are given this type of visa then you are expected to enter NZ within 3 months but this time scale is too short for many to achieve.
I've no idea if it can be changed or extended and can only suggest contacting your case officer with all the details and hope that they can help?

for countless times, i'm only getting an answering machine when calling my case officer. :(

Very sorry if I gave confusing information :o, I didn't realise there were so many varieties of visa all under the same name.
Glad you are well clued up on everything Ian. I know you've been a great help to me on my visa-gaining journey. Thank you.
