We are thinking of submitting our ITA shortly and applied under the skilled migrant catorgory.
I'm worried that if I start applying for nursing jobs now that things will start to get really stressful with timing etc.
Ideally, OH and I would want to go to NZ and travel around for 6 weeks or so and use that time to apply for jobs and 'suss' out the Christchurch area.
Has anyone else had their application for residency approved without a job offer?
Does it make a huge difference? I fully intend to work and am now registered with the nursing council, so will NZIS turn us down without that crucial offer of employment?
Thought please....lovely people.:)

Dear Mrs B,

I may be wrong, but my understanding of the process is that if they have already sent you an ITA then they want you, job or no job. This is a good position to be in as it gives you more choice.

Good luck,

Andrew

Do you mean submitting your ITA in which case your good to go, or submitting the EOI?

If you are talking about the EOI then iIf you have enough points without a job offer then you can apply anyway, your application will just take longer to process as job offers are handled first. So, no you won't be turned down.

Personally if you are intending to do nursing then I would start applying for jobs now and use them as part of your EOI to get to NZ quicker. Nursing jobs are in such demand that the DHBs will almost certainly wait for you to start when you want to (as long as they know when that is).

You can certainly make them aware of this 'condition' of employment and then leave it up to them to offer you a job.

Having now seen your other thread, you are about to send in your ITA.

My advice is still basically the same except that of course it won't speed up getting your ITA :p

I'm still sure that if you have your ITA then it won't be a problem whether you have a job offer or not (unless of course you claimed a job that you no longer have?)

You could still start applying for jobs if you want, and arrange to meet when you arrive in NZ or just wait till you arrive. Certainly wouldn't worry about them holding the job for you though, they will hold it for a really long time if needed - just discuss it with them.

Many people, us included, have been granted PR and come over without a job offer, then looked for work upon arrival.

Equally, as Ian says above, I know of people who have agreed a start date that is 6 to 8 weeks post arrival in NZ.

Either way is possible if you're ITA has arrived as, presumably, you must have already satsified the points requirements.

I'm in radiography. I got offered a job at the beginning of April and told them my intentions were to be in NZ Sept/Oct. They did not have any problems with that timeline.

Hi Mrs.B. We seem to have the same idea! I'm also a nurse and have just come to the end of the application process for PR- just had the interview yesterday (fingers crossed!!) Its been a relatively stress free process so far - helped by the fact that I don't have a job offer I feel I have to rush over for. Seems to be heaps of opportunity for nurses once you are over there. Good luck with your application!

Mrs B - We've just submitted our ITA - with no job... I wanted to get to NZ and be independent and find a good employer at my leisure. Having a job speeds things up, however Andrewp said, they want you job or no job!

Thanks for the positive advice everyone.
Think I've just got the jitters.
Am just going to concentrate on submitting completed ITA in next 4 weeks, (have got until October) then just see what happens.:yes
Thanks again.
