Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum, but I would like to go ahead and post my first question. I got a job offer in Auckland recently. As such, I applied for a General Work Visa (last June 30). My medicals had findings of slightly elevated SGPT level, which is an indication of a fatty liver. Although my BMI is 34.8 (below 35), my waist was more than 90cm (which is the limit for asian men). Anyways, a VO acknowledged our application after 7 days, and mentioned that my application was forwarded to an NZ Medical Assessor. My VO also mentioned that it would take around 3-4 weeks for the medical assessor gives feedback. I got the email last July 7. I followed up with my VO after 2 weeks to ask for the status (since I am supposed to start work August 4). My VO called me up and said (in a surprised voice) that she already mentioned in her email that it would take 3-4 weeks before the medical assessor would give feedback. Somehow, I felt that my VO was not receptive to questions. After that I have not heard from her again, except last week, when she asked for a police clearance. Frankly, I was surprised because I applied for a work visa which is less than 2 years. I believe that for these types of visa, a police clearance is not required. Anyways, I am getting very worried because August 4 is next week. At this point, I don't know what is happening with my application. I am hesitant to follow up since i felt a cold shoulder from my VO the first time I inquired (I am from Manila, Philippines by the way).

Anybody who has the same situation? I know that my application would require more time to process since it was referred to an NZ Med. Assessor. I just want to know how much time? Any form of help would be very much appreciated ...

Cheers,
JLJ

Hi,
is there any chnace you could ask your new employer for a delay in the starting date?

The medical assessors are a law unto themselves and there doesn't seem to be any way of conveyying a sense of urgency to them that I have heard of, your VO is pretty much in the same boat as yourself - waiting for feedback, so not sure contacting them does very much good.
