Well, the dreaded day arrived and I had my parts one, two and three of my medical in Dunedin.

First was my medical with a very quiet, calm, relaxed doctor. No 2.5 minute consultation here, oh no, it was all very professional and dare I say it almost enjoyable and experience.

Today was the extra blood tests, due to being type 2 diabetic and having a circumference to shame one of the All Blacks ;) Then popped next door to the X-ray department, again, very professional and pleasant people.

One thing that did come out of this process was something the GP said to me. He ordered the blood tests, which I expected anyway, but said if my blood sugar levels were OK then there shouldn't be any problems with the medical. Wait a minute ( screech of brakes) ...with a BMI of 38.5 as long as my sugars are in check there shouldn't be a problem??? Now is he just being a very pleasant GP, with an optimistic streak, who I desperately want to believe, or could he in fact be right and I've been terrified for so long now I've forgotten how to relax. OK, don't answer that one :D

Well, I'm supposed to start work on 11th August as long as my medical comes through OK and the work permit in time. Onwards and upwards I say. Even so, I am doing a lot more exercise just in case it does go to referral and I need to drop some more weight anyway.
