We're just getting into deep sleep last night and the phone starts to ring - 'do people at home KNOW what time it is in New Zealand or that Ian has to be up at 5.30???'

Oh its my Mum - Oh we've had an offer on the house... £15K lower than the asking price - I ask you!!! I told her to get the agent to negotiate. And... after one sleepless night wondering what was happening - they upped their offer by £10K & have offered to complete in 4 weeks!!!!! :nice1

Am trying not to get excited as its only an offer at this stage but... heck!!!

Well woke up to terrible news this morning :wah

The people buying our house (or not now!) can't raise a mortgage because he's not a UK resident - so despite promises from our estate agent that they had pre-approval for a mortgage the deal has dropped through. I don't know what to feel - have felt numb for the last couple of hours. We put in a tender on a house last night (as we were promised maximum 3 weeks to close the deal on our UK house - all contracts etc. set up to go & signed) & now we've got to phone the estate agent & tell them to withdraw it - it was our dream house in the perfect location.

Am feeling pretty gutted - I thought all the stress & hassle was behind us.

:( :( :(

Sarah

My deepest sympathies go out to you. To feel as high as a kite one moment, then after a phone call it comes crashing down.

It's no help to be told that everything happens for a reason, it just makes you feel the reason must be sheer bloody mindedness of the powers that be.

My own sanity dangles on a thread at the moment too. Today our house sale seems to be going OK, who knows what tomorrow will bring. I know what it's like to have your heart in your mouth everytime the phone rings.

My best wishes to you and I genuinely hope that all will be resolved sooner rather than later.

Oh what a shame! I'm sure a better offer will be right along. Do you have something like eBay there that you could advertise on? Our friend's here in the States have had great luck selling a few condos that way.

Trust me I know EXACTLY how you feel. We too are already here in NZ and still trying to sell the house in the UK. Before Christmas we had buyers who wanted a speedy completion etc etc so we put all wheels in motion to clear out house went through do they or don't they want curtains remaining furniture etc, parents went in to prepare the house remove curtains and furniture they didn;t want, Crown went in and shipped it all out, house sale fell through late January!!!

Last week we were considering reducing the price but said we would wait as we knew there were viewings over the weekend, and Sun am we had an offer of almost the asking price. We have accepted but are insisting it still remains on the market, continue with viewings etc etc, although according to the agent our prospective buyer is VERY keen, but then so were the last ones!!! Not counting any chickens just yet.

So believe me I know right where you are now, difference is we already bought here and risked it and we have three children to support :wah so life is a little tight until it finally does sell.

My sympathies are with you, but keep your chin up, lean hard on your agents especially since they had already confirmed them as good buyers and I am sure the right buyer will come along soon.

Apparently Gordon Brown raised Stamp duty to £120,000 so the feel is in the UK that this will begin to fuel the market again, and also things generally pick up after Easter.

Best Wishes

Amanda

Thanks guys - Eric & Amanda I hope things move quickly for you too - thanks for sharing your experience - I guess we need to keep telling ourselves it'll be worth it in the end. At least we're here but its not much consolation having to pay the UK mortgage as well as support ourselves here for an unknown period...

Diny I hope your sale goes through soon - I know you coming out here is riding on that & you must be really feeling like everything is riding on this going through - really hope it all goes smoothly :hopeso .

Good luck to all selling their houses & that'll teach me for counting my chickens...
