Hello everybody
I have been browsing this fabulous forum on and off for quite a while now and am very grateful to you all for the wealth of information available here. There are hardly any questions I have thought of so far regarding the immigration process that I have not been able to find the answers to here.
I have gotten so much out of the forum and so I thought it was time to say thank you and also to introduce myself.

We are a British/South African family with one teenage son and two cats and are currently living in Finland and got our PR for New Zealand in June. :D
We have just booked our tickets and so the human element of our family will fly to New Zealand in October and cats will follow in December.

Until then I hope to become a more active participant on the forum and hope to be able to contribute going forward too.

Tervetuloa or welcome to the forum from a Finn and her Kiwi husband. I hope Finland hasn't been too extreme for you...the language, the winters, the food, oh I could go on and on...anyway, I am always so impressed with foreigners living in Finland:yes

So anyway, about the next step on your journey...what will you be doing in NZ? Whereabouts are you going?

Hei
I love Finland :yes
The winters are great when they are really snowy (not when they are just dark) and I will really miss the amazing autumn colours, midnight sun, food is not that bad except I still cannot eat mämmi :no
I can speak Finnish okay and am confident in most day to day situations with the language but am not fluent enough at a business level yet. That said, the language is one of the main reasons we are leaving as OH and my son have not learned much at all. We have lived here twice (95 -99) and now since 2003 and I know I will miss Finland and my Finnish friends a lot.

As for the future in NZ... we are both in IT but don't have jobs there yet. OH has lots of family in Auckland but Wellington is where really appeals to us. We will start applying for jobs at the end of September and hopefully have some interviews lined up in Welly for when we arrive.

Awww, I love mammi with sugar sprinkled on the top and cream over it... it's definitely an acquired taste and a great Finnish food to shock the foreigners with:p

I understand the language issues as I have lived in the Netherlands, Denmark and Germany and struggled with everyday life a bit...

Anyway, you two being IT professionals and having family in NZ seems to make your choice the perfect one:nice1

ha ha ha - I tried it twice because it's an easter thing and I had a year to forget why I didn't like it the first time but it's a bit like marmite - you love it or hate it :-)
