Hi Girls, rather personal question here.
I shall be due for a smear after an abnormal scan and then colposcopy operation last year. I can't arrange it before we go so are there any Well Women type clinics in Christchurch were I can register as a non-resident and get my check up?
Thanks in advance.

I was wondering the same sort of thing.
Here in the uk all contraception is free, and so are smears, and all related things to do with well womans clinics. Is this the same in nz.
But i can not find out any info on this subject.
I have to have a smear every 6 months so can't have them all done in the uk (this would cost a small fortune in air fares).
But then again that would'nt be so bad as i would get to see my folks and friends.

Unfortunately there are only 4 million of us here and we cannot afford to pay for everyones contraception, in addition the whole idea is to increase the population LOL.There are some clinics but they are few and far between, you have to go to the Doc for your smear, and your pill.

hello dave's wife and moorf and gran and rae and everybody,
i hope to be a licensed practicing GP also in the nZ, i just have to take their licensure exam. if and when they grant me the privilege, maybe i can take care of you gals? or even if not me, i will know where to refer you to. i can always hold your hands and hug you.
hey! no maudlin thoughts! anyway, why are you on contraceptive pills, if you don't mind me asking?
cheers

Have just been to the Doctors to get a repeat of the pill I was on in the UK.
Cost of going to Doctor - $50.00
Cost of 6month Prescription - $34.20
To get another 6 months you have to go back to doctor and pay $50.00 to get a prescription again :eek
Stock up in the UK folks!!

Hi moorf,
If you go on the net and look for you ditrict health boards they should( if they have a website) have a list of services like Womens health BUT I presume the GP visit is the most likely route or the Sexual health clinic.
Hope your smear is okay - if you need any support please pm me ( I am currently a nurse educator in Gynae, starting Monday!)

Thanks Linda... sorry, I should have updated... had it done back in October.
I GOT THE ALL CLEAR :clap I went the GP route in the end and she literally did the smear there and then....
And.. I got the results in 3 days!! Sooo much better than the huge wait in the UK.
Good luck in your new job :P you'll be a great source of info and support for us gals on the forum... :nice1
