I have nearly finished my degree, and can get one more year of funding to pay for more certificates.

So far I have signed up for 2 more courses, Certificate in Supporting Learning in Primary Schools, and Certificate in Early Years Practice.

Question is, is it worth me doing both with NZ in mind? I know my degree will be recognised, and ideally in NZ would like to try and get a place on the Early Childhood Education course, (should have to do a year top up) so the Early Years course might help for that, if we stay in UK i was hoping to be a Primary teacher, and the Supporting Learning.... would be better.

I am leaning towards the Early Years course, and dropping the other one. After studying for 4 years with the Open University for a course that should take 6 years, I am worn out!

If anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it.

I feel like a useless member of this forum right now, cos I always ask for advice but can never give anything back!!!!!

Hi Helen
Don't worry about asking questions...you may be asking something that others want to know but unable to ask themselves.
Other peoples answers all help to build up a picture.

Have you contacted NZTeaching Council with regard to future training? I know that NZ will only accept their own EY qualifications. Is that what you meant by a 1 year top up?

Hopefully someone will be along soon who can actually answer your question :yes

PS How is the DIY going?:D

I have contacted NZ about the Early Years teaching and was told I can apply to do the extra year once there, although I know competition is fierce for places.

As for the DIY, getting there slowly. All papering finished, and most painting, half of one room, and another coat of paint on the stairs and landing and that's done downstairs. Hubby even helped me with one wall last night, then he got bored!

Shame we still have the big jobs like the kitchen to do, but I have found a neutral kitchen in Focus sale which should cost about £600, so that might be the one!

Hi Helen
I managed to get bits of a kitchen from Focus new range at opening offer prices which was a bit of a bargain :)
By bits I mean a new worktop, several cupboards and then re used bits I already had but had it fitted into new bits.

I also found a bathroom suite reduced due to water damage...thought about that for a while then realised that water damage referred to packaging not the actual suite as of course that is meant to get wet:laugh

I'm nearly at the end of sorting the house and have been searching for estate agents...which I find very scary :wah never sold a house before (assuming that this one will actually sell) but then I've never decided to move myself to the other side of the world before either :D

Let's keep plodding on...

I have never sold either. The whole process is scary!

I was asking one agent about the HIP thing, they reckon out of 120 properties and loads of viewers only 2 have asked to see a HIP, what a waste of money getting one done. He also hinted they might be scrapping them but how true this is who knows, they'll probably scrap them as soon as I sort one out!

I have come up with an even cheaper kitchen renovation plan. B&Q do plain pine doors in various sizes, I might see if I can put new doors on the existing solid units, and replace the dodgy ones completely also with pine doors. I need to get my tape measure out though as it may not be viable.

I think we are making progress with DIY, but there is still a lot to do, difficult to paint with the pesky kids running about!

When are you hoping to move?
