Hi!

I have a pre-paid mobile phone (no landline), and was looking for a cheaper way to call the States than the 89c a minute that Vodafone charges me. I am, as a rule, against cell phone contracts, so I don't want to sign up for one of their international calling packages.

I signed up for return call service with Telestial, but when I called the 'trigger number' for the computer to call me back, the Vodafone lady said that that number was 'banned.'

Is there another company that offers this service that anyone here has used, and why is that number banned??

Thanks!

Just earlier I chanced upon a supposedly new prepaid card service called V8, launched by the same guys who do the Kia Ora and other prepaid calling card services. V8 supposedly lets any Vodafone users dial a special number (at "no charge", not sure if that applies to air-time) and then make international calls at a few cents a minute. On the mobile.

I'm surprised Vodafone is doing/allowing this, considering the dent it'll make to their IDD profits, but there you are.

Usually I would use Skype, but I've recently moved to a place where broadband is pretty much just a tad faster than dial-up so making calls over the internet became impossible.
