Is there much of the way of Technical Architecture in NZ or are enough of the infrastructure projects there too small to necessitate this role?
Cheers,
Yogi.

Hey, Richard... I´m currently negotiating a job as a Java Developer/Architect for the Christchurch region. Do you have any idea about the salary range for someone with 5+years experience?
I think I´m going to ask something in the range of $75k-$85k.

Hey Richard,
I'm an experienced .NET architect / technical analyst and currently waiting for my ITA to be stamped by NZ, London (no job offer).
Funnily enough, I'm considering local government roles (tired of the big corporates!) and like the Christchurch region. Out of interest, what is the work environment like and salaries?

Hi, judging by the Hayes salary survey (http://www.hays.com.au/salary/pdfs08/Information%20Technology.pdf) there is a big difference in pay between an architect and a developer.
The range you suggest is a reasonable starting point for negotiation but I think you would have to knock $10k off if you worked in local government.

Hi, as per my other answer the salaries are generally around $10k less for local government but the environment is pretty stress free and laid back.
The job is likely to be reasonably secure too. And if you get a job at the CCC there is a good bunch of people working there.

Thanks for the answer... I´ve just proposed a $85k - $95k and the agent said that this is in the range they expected! :raebanana
I think it´s time to start looking at Christchurch neighborhoods... Riccarton doesn´t appeals to me as a nice place to live... at least that´s my first impression...
