Hi,
My husband has just been transferred to Auckland for two years with his work so we will be making to move with our two kids (aged 1 & 3.5) in about 2 months. I am excited even though I have never been to New Zealand before and I have found reading the other threads on this formum to be a great source of information, so thanks for that. My husband will be working in the city so we were thinking of living on the North Shore (we live on the North Shore in Sydney so it seems a natural location for us).
My main requirement is that it is near a gym with a good creche as it is really important to me that I get daily exercise AND time away from the kids! I like the look of the Glenfield Leisure Centre but is Glenfield a nice area? Does anyone know of a good gym in Takapuna with a creche? Or can anyone recommend a gym with a great creche?
thanks
Victoria

Welcome to the forum Victoria. We are just about to make the move from Brisbane to Hamilton in September. I also have kids about the same age as yours ones nearly 3 and the other turns 1 in a couple of weeks time. Sorry I can't help you out as far as a specific gym goes, but I totally understand what you mean. I currently go to a gym in Brisbane with a great creche and hope to find something in Hamilton. Do you know where the Les Mills gyms are in Auckland because on the website for the one in Hamilton there is a creche which you can leave them in for up to 2hrs, although you have to book them in in advance (ie. the day before or ealier).

Hi Victoria,
As my wee one is at school I don't have need of creches however I do know that North Shore Leisure Centre in Browns Bay (www.northshoreleisure.co.nz) have a creche as does the Apollo Gym in Albany (www.lifestylefitness.co.nz).
I'm not sure if they have a creche but one of the the other big gyms on the North Shore is the Millenium Institute (www.mish.org.nz).

PS: Say hello to Neutral Bay for me please, we used to live there back in 1999/2000 and I still miss it and commuting by ferry.

Thanks for info about gyms. We live in Cremorne, right next to Neutral Bay! It is still awesome!

I emailed the Les Mills Gyms and they do have creches at two gyms but said they were $6 per session. Not sure if this is per child though, if it is it makes it a rather expensive exercise at $12 per visit on top of gym fees! Shame because I really like the sound of the gyms

Awwww... the memories! Used to walk down to the end of Cremorne Point pretty regularly on those lazy Sundays BC (before child). I really miss Sydney.
Good luck with your move,

The Les Mills Gyms must have different creche policies. I got stressed when you said it costed $6/session as I thought it was free for members and had kind of already made the decision to join up with them when we arrive. So I checked Les Mills - Hamilton website which says:
'The Les Mills Kidz Crèche is a fully licensed childcare facility provided free to Les Mills members whilst they are training at the gym. '

This sounds great - I checked with the Les Mills in Auckland again after reading and they confirmed that it was actually $10 per child per session. So I definintely won't be going there! Shame as the gym looked awesome. I will keep looking - there don't seem to be as many gyms on the north shore and definitely very few with creche

That kind of a charge is ridiculous!!!! They obviously aren't really interested in attracting mums with young kids.
