THe form you have to fill in on the plane is on the MAF/biosecurity site somewhere. If I find it I will put the link in as I need it too.

As Mels said, they'll give you an arrival form to complete on the plane. This one:

Question 3 asks if you have any food - so just tick the YES box (well circle). Chocolate and sweets are usually fine to bring in, so you shouldn't have any problems if you declare it.

Yes, you can bring it, in fact you are only allowed to bring Galaxy chocolate,(all forms acceptable), and you must bring it to Devonport, where you will leave it at a designated spot. Its funny the Kiwis do it that way, but they are the rules, sorry! ;)

It's a funny thing but the biggest impresson I get from this forum is that it is populated by a large bunch of friendly people who love chocolate, cheesecake and wine. :cheers:exit

Yes, chocalate should be allowed, though the NZ chocolate isn't that bad. The cheese selection is no where near as good though, Edam, Mild, Coldby and Tasty (?) are the main staples. Others are available but at a price.

But my order is Chocolate > Wine > Cheesceake
Although I did try some stupendous cheesecake at the food show on Sunday. I need to find this cheesecake shop.

in general processed foods are ok, but if you're even remotely unsure declare it. NZ takes biosecurity incredibly seriously (something that i think is difficult for people from other countries to understand, but it really is important!!). chocolate should be fine, but things like honey are a no-no.

Yup things like chocolate are fine, but as you say you must declare it, as there will be a box that ask if you are bringing any food and if you say no, when you have some sweeties and they find them, then you will be fined.
There are things that people don't realise aren't allowed like boxes of raisins, sandwiches from the flight or cereal bars with fruit in etc etc. The dogs are super good at picking up on these. So its best and easiest to declare and let them decide what is acceptable.

I can attest to this!! On our 1st NZ trip we brought peanut butter & jelly (strawberry jelly) sandwiches in baggies in brand new luggage. We ate on the plane and threw all the bags away on plane. While waiting for our checked luggage in Auckland a lady with a working beagle came over and the dog sounded the carry on I was holding. Our bags were searched and we were very cooperative but the lady was quite serious. (She kept asking if we had bananas though and seemed disappointed after we said no for the 5th time so I wonder if the dog was specifically trained to sound off for bananas?) Anyway declare everything or face the wrath of the beagle!:uhoh

Absolutely - just declare all food and get rid of the stuff you know to be a no-no. Also be aware that you may inadvertantly be bringing in other animal products prohibited under CITES legislation - much time was spent at Auckland airport with my step-dad explaining that the ivory parts to the drones on his bagpipes were antiques and he therefore didn't have any certification for them. The Customs/Biosecurity guys told him he should. It got a bit hairy at one point when he thought they were going to impound a very expensive set of antique bagpipes!
