Hi everyone

I'm typing this in the midst of mountains of boxes that the movers are loading into the container tomorrow. My husband James and I and my two dogs are supposed to fly to Christchurch on Aug 20 so he can take up a post as lecturer at the University of Canterbury on Sept 1.

At this point, the only ones who will definitely be flying on Aug 20 are the dogs because they're booked non-refundably into cargo and quarantine. I'm waiting for permission to leave the US while my US green card application is being processed (grew up in Germany). James is waiting for the Medical Assessors to clear his/our PR application, which we submitted at the beginning of July.

So we're sending our pets and all our belongings to a country that we don't even know for sure will have us. This seems a bit insane to me, but what are we supposed to do? This is not just a rhetorical question -if anyone has any advice, please do let us know!

I suspect we'll be using this forum a bit in the near future, so Hi everyone.

Welcome :)
I know how you feel. We're sending our doggies off before their rabies titre runs out. Got everything booked so no time to wait around for PR. Just making the jump as part of plan C.
At least you'll have a month while the dogs are in quarantine to get things sort of sorted.

Most of the quarantines also provide domestic boarding if you need more time, so there is that option.
Good luck!

Yup, mad as a small dog in a bungalow. But aren't we all?

Just part of the rollercoaster ride.

Think positive thoughts.

Hehe a little bit of dread is good for you :)

Think positive, there's no real reason for them to turn you down so it's unlikely to happen :)

A belated thanks for the welcome!

We had our belongings picked up last Wed.

Friday I found out I got permission to leave the US while my green card is being processed :raebanana That was a close call!

Today we heard that my medical was cleared, but James needs to have a report from a specialist re his diabetes. I wish they'd tell you ahead of time that you should provide such a report if you have chronic conditions -we just saw his endocrinologist on Friday and could have easily gotten it. Now we need to try to hunt him down.

I doubt we'll get PR before Aug 20 when we're scheduled to leave, but hopefully it won't take too long after...

Fingers crossed,
Ness
