Hi

Moving end January 09:clap. Heading to Papamoa area with 2 boys aged 11 and 8. Any advice/experiences/recommendations for schools in the area? No rental sorted yet but may rent according to school zone depending on replies. Have done some research on net but would like to hear from fellow 'Papamoanians' as word of mouth can offer some good pointers. Have no family or friends in the area (yet!) so decided I needed a thread.....!

Much appreciated.

There is no Intermediate School in Papamoa. So the 11 y/o would be in like Year 7 which would be Intermediate level and that would mean either Mount Maunganui Intermediate or Te Puke Intermediate depending on where you live in Papamoa. Tauranga Intermediate, Aquinas, Bethlehem might be other options. Not sure if they are zoned. They are looking to build a new college out that way I think by 2010 or so that is the proposed date. The Primary schools seem to be really good.

Sorry D&J
Looking at Te Akau Ki website www.teakaukipapamoa.school.nz and they do offer year 7 and 8 there but they are zoned. Tahatai www.tahatai.school.nz/ does as well adn is zoned as well. Papamoa Primary does not www.papamoa.school.nz/. this should help your decision in regards to that. Sorry about the misinformation. Either Te Akau Ki or Tahatai are good schools I believe. They will be 12 and 9 next year?

Hi D&J,

We too are headed to Tauranga in December this year. We have two boys aged 12 and 10. We have been looking at Bethlehem College which is not zoned and Tauranga Boys' College which is. Both seem very good. We are heading up for a recce trip in October so will hopefully find an area which suits us. I should say that we are living in Wellington at the moment and have been here for 18 months.

livin in papamoa myself as has been posted east of papamoa and the te puke school is an option also again tahaitai school is zoned so checking which part of papamoa you want tolive can matter.I live at the royal palms area and my daughter (7) goes to mt primary and my son goes to Mt intermediate , as yet there is no zoning in place for them but i believe mt primary is growing quick so zonng may be going ahead there. My bosses also live near me and their daughter goes to Aquinas which i believe is catholic and very good while their son goes to bethlehem but a afir bit of travelling between the 2.
