I've just had my medical in NZ, for a work permit. Showed my BMI at 40.1 :exit As I have been dieting and losing weight, I now calculate my BMI as under 40. Is it possible to have a second medical so soon after a first one? Does anyone know if it is possible to just have the medical without having to re-do the bloods and x-ray??
As I'm applying for a work permit and the job offer isn't going to hang around for long, I'm wondering about the time line of this. Is it worth my booking in for another medical to get my BMI under the magical 40, but only just? There were a couple of other minor things too to be taken into consideration.
Any advice anyone, please??

I'm not sure but I doubt you would need a whole medical. Just a report from a doctor showing updated BMI.

can you apply for a waiver?

I haven't put my medical through the work permit process yet Victoria, so just wondered about if it would be worth getting a second medical. Think I'll approach another doctor and have another medical, as the original doctor wrote some rather damming comments in the report :wah:roll
Booked new medical and whole family getting theirs done at same time too, for ITA. Things are finally coming together it seems, or is that tempting fate??? :yes

ah, that clears things up - yeah in that case you might have more luck with a second one :) best of luck :)

Yay!! Just had second medical and BMI came down from 40.1 to 36.2, :D :D
No problems with the xray so just the bloods to go, which this second GP said would not be an issue (he's a Brit too!!)
Here we go, here we go, here we go :yes

Why did you re-do the xrays? They are valid longer than the medical as far as I remember so you'd have been okay with the first set.

Hi Moorf, I had to re-do them as they were requested by a different GP to the one I used today. As the first report wasn't very good I don't want to have reference to the first medical for NZIS to use.
Fingers crossed it's downhill from here on in. :D

Hi Genie, good luck with everything!
Just curious, where was that picture taken? Looks an awful lot like a place on the isle of Lewis, where I lived for a year.

Hi Ness, its a lovely beach that is only used by dog walkers, called Tomohawk Beach, Dunedin. There is a lovely cave there, and some big rocks to sit on.
Medical is being referred to assessors in Wellington, as a procedure, due to my being diabetic type 2 :roll Another two weeks to wait, and I'm worried about the job offer being held open. :( Gosh, when does this roller coaster ride finish :D

Yahoo!! I start work on Monday....officially :clap After waiting for 2 weeks after application went in and hearing nothing the NZIS in Dunedin offered me an interim work permit. I didn't even ask for it!!
So I've just been for lunch with my new team and boss and as of Monday will be in full time employment. :laugh:cheers
