Hi planning to take my Hi Fi to NZ next month, however I need to upgrade my CD player. Are Hi Fi goods more expensive in NZ then UK. Should I buy a new CD player (put it in an old box) before I go or buy a new one when I get to NZ. Planning to spend around $540 - $810 on a new CD player. Advice please.

Best suggestion would be to look on a site such as Ferrit - Home Audio (http://www.ferrit.co.nz/42664.html) to see prices and products.
Not compared prices, but sure that you will find a lot more choice in UK, so if you are after a particular model then I would compare prices for that model to make your decision.
Don't forget that warranty issues may be a problem, and also getting spare parts.
From a customs perspective the item just needs to be used, so get it out of the box and give it a go (good idea to check it does actually work and isn't faulty anyway) and then you can just put it back into the same box.

Go to Richer Sounds and buy what you need before you arrive. While you'll be able to find what you want here, you will definitely have to pay more.

Yes, excellent place Richer Sounds got my stack system there a fe years ago. Currently looking for a tuner though as my current one's DAB only.

Hi Chocolate, I will leave my DAB tuner behind, just managed to get a Quad FM3 off Ebay in good nic for £45 to bring with me. Have to say it sounds better then my DAB.
