Has anybody been in the situation that they have been billed for services that they didn't agree to? I can't go into many details here on the open forum but I was wondering how I can sort this mess out.

I have spoken to the company directly and even though I received and paid for service A, I did not agree to them carrying out service B for which they are invoicing me.

They are adamant that because they involved a third party to carry out service B, there are costs involved so they are passing the costs to me. I have now received 2 further invoices with 'late payment charges' added.

Can I tell them that I flatly refuse to pay and if they want the money, they should take me to court?

I think it would be worth contacting your local Citizen's Advice Bureau for advice about this. You can find the details of you local office here: http://www.cab.org.nz/bureaux/loc-central.html

Good luck.

We are going through something similar, other way round though! :p If the amount is below a certain amount you can ask them to settle the matter in something similar to the small claims court. Tell them that you will not pay and that they must file for payment through the disputes tribunal. That's what hubby's customer did and there is nothing we can do to get the money owed except this. Don't know if this is applicable to your situation but have a look at the link below to see if it is.

If nothing is in writting for service B then what have they got to go on.
Something a little similar with us,word of mouth, so can't see how we can be held liable for charges
Good luck
