Forgive me for posting in 2 places, but needed to make sure we got all bases covered! (also in emmigrate forum)
Hoping someone can help. OH has his PR interview tomorrow morning, and I'm still concerned about Q's relating to expected salary. I need to know if $24.00 per hour is reasonable to ask as a starting salary in ChCh/NZ. We have a friend who recently returned from Wellington (taught joinery at Welltech) who has said that this is the lowest OH should go in for when looking for work. Getting a job is his main priority, not level of salary, but we need to meet INZ acceptable levels (is this still $45,000 pa) I have worked it as $24.00 X 40 = 960 then X 52 = $49,920. I had seen a posting explaining that you must use 40 hour working week, but unsure how many weeks you are 'allowed' to calculate over. Hubby is time-served and qualified (just received his HNC in Construction Practice.) Prior to that, NZQA assessed (full) him as equivalent to Level 4 (Advanced) Carpentry and Joinery. He works for a small family firm building staircases, doors, windows and doing renovation - type joinery work. As we don't know anyone in NZ we need to get this part of the interview right to maximise chances of PR. All research has been coming up blank, or is from around 2006, since when there have been obvious changes in building trade etc. If anyone could give us any help, we'd be sssoooooooooooooooo grateful. Thanks.
