We were told by a SA immigration consultant that New Zealand is having a few problems with xenophobia towards South Africans at the moment and that perhaps we should rather consider Australia. Has anybody had any experience of this?

I would totally disregard what they said to you.
Your own ability to integrate will be entirely dependent on your own attitude. New Zealand is a multicultural and tolerant society on a practical level.

That's exactly what I've also heard. Perhaps your agent make more money out an Oz application? Would you PM me the name of the company you're using? Just want to be sure it's not the same one I'm using :roll:roll

Change you immigration agent. And WHY are you using an immigration agent in the 1st place. We used this forum and some other forums and got all the info we needed and more.

Yes the kiwi's sometimes perceive us Saffers as arrogant or loud, and they cant quite understand our sense of humor at times, but believe me, they love us when we start acting like them, specially when we also booo the ozzie's in sport.

oh, just wanted to add. your "Agent" might be some of the agents that NZ immigration had just recently "blacklisted" because of incomplete paperwork or dare i say, false information.

Currently the acceptance criteria for Skilled migrants between Oz and NZ are exactly the same.

Absolute nonsense! Get rid of that agent - you'd be better off with the forum. NZ values everyone.

Completely agree with Lockstock. Have met some great SA's and I have definitely not come across any negative responses about SA's from NZer's.

Hi,

Funny that.
When we first looked into coming to NZ 5 years ago, a consultant told us that it was too difficult to get into NZ as an electrician.
He said to apply for OZ first then move to NZ when we got the OZ visas.
They pushed OZ really hard.:no

:exit

What a load of old tosh. My wife's South African and neither of us have experienced anything but warm welcomes.

It would be a stretch to say its not there at all, but it's not like it's rampant or anything.

Nothing worse or better than people from the UK, USA & Canada experience.

Most racism is directed towards Maori/Polynesian, Chinese & Japanese. You will always get people who don't like newcomers the world over.

Australia actually has a worst reputation with cultural issues but once again you would have no problems finding plenty of places where someone from S Africa would be welcomed.

Cheers

Tia

Yes, ditto, ditch that company!

I have met some lovely SA people here and they have never mentioned any racism, and they are the most friendliest people too.

Good luck!
