Hello Everyone,
If you remember, Hubby & I, & twin girls returned to the UK after just 3 months. We decided to relocate from Halifax to Poole in Dorset, rather than stay in Auckland.
Had we made it to Christchurch things may have been different, but I think probably not. It wasn't that we didn't like NZ, we loved many, many aspects not least the uncrowded beaches & beautiful scenery. However hubby had to return to teaching in order for us to qualify for visas; leaving us very poor! We also left our beloved business behind in the capable hands of a manager/friend, but as soon as we left the UK serious problems that only we could handle kept popping up.
We were lucky enough to sell our house (completed in June), decided to cut our losses and come back to the UK, but relocate to a beach lifestyle (which, of course, we had loved in NZ). We are closer to my family (who are in & around London), but still within reach of Hubby's family in Yorkshire.
For us it has been a fantastic move and has satisfied all our requirements (except for the hoards on the beaches during the peak weeks and the weather! But we can live with those). We love the outdoorsy lifestyle here (feels similar to NZ in that respect), people have been so friendly (fab neighbours) and we are opening another shop here in Poole in the shopping centre. We walk or cycle everywhere and most importantly the school run will be a 10 minute stroll! And the little school was rated outstanding, with small class sizes.
As soon as we were around to handle problems & oversee our shop in Huddersfield it has stepped up a gear and we are feeling very confident about our business opportunities in the UK.
I couldn't face another bumpy settling in period, so booked a rental online & luckily it has worked out brilliantly - the perfect spot for us, with everything we enjoy or need within easy reach. AND it has central heating, is not damp & no whitetail spiders!
Good luck to all those in or moving to NZ; I can understand your reasons for being there or wanting to go there, but for us, at this juncture, good old Blighty suits just fine!
It would have been much cheaper to go straight from Halifax to Poole, but it has been a great adventure! Despite feeling more than a little disheartened towards the end in Auckland.
Thanks again for all your support and advice everyone - You have all been really great. :clap
Best wishes, Fi
