Hi all,

Does anyone know if we'll be able to buy PS3 and Nintendo Wii games over in NZ that will work on our UK systems?

Thanks,

Tony

I'm not sure if the games will work. I do know that our PS3 is universally powered despite what it says on the exterior, but that the Wii is not.

I also know that the games cost a whole heck of a lot more here than they do in the US, and for me it is cheaper to buy them from the US (where my game systems are from) and have them delivered than to buy them here.

Yeah I was reading somewhere that UK PS3'S and Wii's use PAL format and so do NZ PS3's and Wii's - was just wondering if anyone had first had experience just to confirm. Yeah we will definately be getting the Wii fit once out there, looks like a good laugh!

Cheers

Actually, for some reason Sony decided not to regionalise games for the PS3 so you can buy games from anywhere and they'll work. Blu-Ray discs are a different matter however...

Wii games will work, as long as they're PAL, which of course NZ and the UK are, but getting Wii games here is a bit more problematic since Softprint (Nintendo's NZ distributor) went out of business a couple of months back. That and the fact they're VERY expensive means it's usually cheaper to import.
Of course there's the Freeloader, but that's just complicating matters.....

But of course you shouldn't but Wii games from the US as they won't work on the PAL hardware.

I bought Mario Kart Wii here a few weeks ago (it's great) for NZ$110. I looked at all the importing options and it didn't seem to be any cheaper to get it from elsewhere. Annoyingly, CD-Wow don't sell Mario Kart, presumably because it comes in a great big box so providing free shipping would be uneconomical.

We've brought our Wii from the UK and we're using to but haven't updated the software yet. My husband e-mailed Nintendo a couple of times to ask about what would happen when we updated and it realised we were not in the UK but never got an answer. I think it's just as cheap to get games in the UK and post them out here. I'd definitely get Wii fit but buy it before you come out to NZ.

Didn't that offer finish at Morrisons on Monday? I'm pretty sure it was just for 1 week. :)

I brought my Wii system from Canada recently, complete with the Fit Board. I get around the PAL games by having the Wii chipped inside. Rock Band should be here within a week!

PS 3 games work from UK we bought a couple back with us from hols.

Price wise, pretty much the same, we saved about $10 by buying it in UK rather than here. If you can get a super deal in UK, then get it, but otherwise dont worry toooo much, games are around $120 here for a new release, by the time you convert that to pounds and get it shipped, there aint much of a difference.
