Our ITA was acknowledged receipt on Feb 9 although it was physically received on Jan 31. Not sure why.

We checked the NZIS website almost everyday and then on Feb 26 the page said our ITA was updated and we lost 5 points! I have no clue why that was? Although we are still above 100, I am wondering if this will have an impact on the final outcome.

Has anyone lost points at this stage?

Cheers,
Shagen

Have you or your wife had a birthday recently? That could be a reason, other than that I can't think why points would drop....

I thought I read on the NZIS website that once the application is in, you would not loose points for the age. I turned 40 on the 19th which was after the application was received.

Shagen - this might have echoes of the computer-led error we spotted a couple of weeks before Christmas... in that Feb 26th is a weekend day, isn't it, in any of your relevant time zones? And NZIS don't work at weekends.
My time maths might be wrong, but if not, this might be a big clue.

Cheers,
Matt.

Just thought about this again. Could be that the NZIS computer is timed according to NZ time.... so your adjustment might have been made on a Friday after all. Could be, that is... how do the time zones gel re. where any manual adustment is likely to have been made? Friday or Saturday?

Cheers,
Matt.

Something else: any reason they'd have to peg you down on work epxerience years?

Matt,

Interesting point. There is a 6 hour gap between where I am and NZ but when you log on, are you on NZ time, local time or GMT? :eek

I have 16 years work experience but could only prove 12. I remember the case officer telling me that they give points for 10 years so the first 4 years that I could not prove was irrelavent as far as the ITA goes!

I hev written to her but have not gotten a reply yet.

When we got our application-receipt letter in the regular mail from London, it said app. was received on Feb. 14th. But I think the app.-received date on the NZIS Web site was Feb. 15th or 16th.
So I think the NZIS site goes by NZ time.

Two other points:

1.) I don't think it matters as long as you're at or above selection point on date of your selection. See forum for experiences of NZIS-advised points-drops that suggest this (e.g., someone who had 160 but was advised to drop 50 because they might have delayed app.)
2.) Have you been through your EOI online line by line to spot any adjustments? V.important. Seem to be some (other) computer hiccups that could explain such changes, or even deliberate manual changes.

Sorry, previous post not clear. I don't mean that computer hiccups could explain manual changes.... I meant they could explain non-deliberate changes but that checking line-by-line could at least lead you to the location of more deliberate changes by NZIS staff.

 Matt.

Yep Matt, we had several glaring errors on the printed form that were not on the EOI we submitted... for instance, my name is now Naomi and I have family in NZ!! :eek Easily changed though!

Why didn't I think of that? :uhoh

They took away 5 point from my work experience! :wah

I wonder why?

there were a couple questions which we found confusing and won't be surprised if we are docked, but we'll still be above the magic 100 so aren't panicking.

Shagen - was any of your experience part time? It still 'counts' as heavily as does full time, I think, but they might have pro-rated it from a 30 hour week (e.g., 3 years at 10 hours per week becomes 1 year equivalent).

Or, more likely, maybe the experience doesn't fit in with one of the criteria below, pasted from the Ops. Manual (this is only an extract. Full details here http://www.immigration.govt.nz/nzis/operations_manual/6932.htm)

"Work experience is recognised and qualifies for points if:

it is relevant to the principal applicant's* current skilled employment in New Zealand or offer of skilled employment in New Zealand; or
a visa or immigration officer is satisfied that it is skilled work experience because it required, or enabled the principal applicant* to gain, considerable specialist, technical or management expertise; or
it is relevant to the principal applicant's* recognised qualification (see SM14).
Principal applicants who do not have current skilled employment or an offer of skilled employment in New Zealand (see SM7) will only qualify for points for work experience if:
the work experience meets the requirements for recognition set out above; and
that work experience was gained in a labour market that is comparable to the New Zealand labour market."

Cheers,
Matt.

Hi,

from personal experience I wouldn't worry too much about losing points as long as you stay above the selection point when you were picked. My original total was 115, which then went up to 120 after the policy changes last December. When I returned my ITA I wasn't happy that I could legitmally claim points for being on the POL, so when I sent my ITA back I only claimed 105. I explained why on my cover letter and this was never questioned by the case officer.

Good luck

Andy

Thanks for all your inputs. Reading the manual I could only think of two possible reasons.

1. I have been in my present job for only 1.5 years and points are calculated on 2 year blocks.

2. I am working in Indonesia currently and Indonesia is not one of the countries listed as comparable to NZ.

I honestly can't think of anything else or any other reason.

I am still awaiting a reply from my case officer and will post her reply here.

At the moment it is still above the magic 100 points. Keeping my fingers crossed that I don't get any more deductions!

Shagen,

Re. your theory about Indonesia, maybe not. See below:

"Work experience is also assessed as being in a comparable labour market if:
it was undertaken for a multinational commercial entity that is domiciled in one of the countries listed in (a) above; and
the work was undertaken in a country not listed in (a) above by a person who is a citizen or permanent resident of one of the listed countries and had the lawful authority to work in that country."

Does this apply to your company/situation?

Yes Matt it does apply.

So looks like it must be the less than 2 years thing!

My case officer is on leave for a week so will only know why next week or when I see her in two weeks!

Sorry Xanctus,

oh dear my lovely Indonesia...(not comparable enough to NZ labour??) made me sad badly... :( :no :wah

Indonesia is not on the list of countries, when Malaysia is. I have been working here for 3 years now and find that the labour policies of the two countries very different but work wise very similar.

Really don't know why Indonesia is not on the list!
