We are in the process of applying to join our son in NZ. The dreaded medicals are over, the police checks back,we are now waiting for some forms from son in NZ then it will be all go, go, go and the long wait will begin.

Keep us posted, please. There aren't many people around going the parent sponsorship route at the moment, as far as I know (and that's what we'll eventually be doing).

Hi JandM
When are you hoping to make the move? How difficult is the process and how long does it take? I ask because my parents are hoping to take the same way in to NZ when I get settled.

Thank you for your good wishes, I'm sure there will be many questions needing answers as we go further down the route and hope someone out there will be able to help.
We aren't sure where in NZ we will settle, son & daughter in law in Auckland and sister in Christchurch. We haven't seen much of south island yet but are thinking we will live in north island, holiday in south.
At the moment we are living in Brixham.

PhilipWe don't know. I'm the moral support and sometimes practical carer to my frail elderly mother, being her only child. She would happily go with us, but there's no way of getting her residency, and I can't leave her - she has been and is a lovely Mum. So although we would love to be in NZ within reach of our son and the next generation, the pull of the previous generation keeps us here for now.
Mickstim is another forum couple who have gone through the process and are already in NZ, and Moorf's parents are currently in the middle of it all. Here's a link to various threads that have a bearing on this topic. http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/search.php?searchid=703715

You're welcome! It's good to start getting your head round it, I think. Reading what other people are having happen lately, we've also instituted a reduce-the-waist-measurement programme, in readiness.
