Hi,
can anyone tell me whether many schools have before and / or after school clubs for families where both parents work??
I am hoping to get a full time job and my wife a part time one but we are panicking about how we are going to manage with school etc etc and holidays (hence the previous post re how many holidays we would get)
I'm sure there is a simple solution but can't see it yet :uhoh
cheers

Hi Nick
Sorry I can't help with the after school issue, however, I worked for Pumpkin Patch here in the UK. It's a children's clothing store from NZ. The manager of the shop was a kiwi and she was telling me that loads of mums work the morning shift and finish in time to fetch the kids from school. I am sure if your wife is looking for a part-time job, she will be able to find something to fit in with the school times. She also told me that during school holidays, they would cut the mum's back to 1 morning a week if it suited them, and if they had trouble with getting someone to look after the kids.
Just a thought. Perhaps she could call Pumpkin Patch when she gets there :laugh
cheers

No, I don't think I have heard of any before school clubs. They do have after school clubs around. They also have Holiday progames.
Also you can advertise for someone to mind your child before and after school. The cost is approx $5.00 per hr per child. Don't worry, even the school where your child would be attending may know of other Mothers that do this kind of work. My cousin does this M-F and gets paid $100.00.
Most part time jobs start at 9-3pm or you might find one with flexible hrs.

Out of school care is provided all over the country, in fact in the right circumstances the govt. subsidise it. here is a URL to the Tauranga one for instance

Hi Nick,
Lots of schools do the before and after clubs - you can usually check it out on thier websites - the one my daughter is gonna go to does and four out of five of the other schools we looked inot did too. BUT it is generally in the schools were younger kids are once they get to year 4( I think - could be wrong!) the clubs stop.
hope this helps

There are after school clubs available, although I dont think many schools have homework clubs. There are plenty of after school clubs about, in fact I have managed to find a really good one located bang in the middle of my childrens two schools. The cost for the after-school club is $12 per child, and the holiday program is $30 each per day. This includes a trip out everyday during the holiday programe (weather permiting).
I'm not sure whether we will have a reduction for having two children attending.
My employer has been very tolerant to the fact that I am a working mum. The hours for my job were originally advertised at 8 am to 5pm, but were changed to 9am to 5pm due to the fact I have children. I had one week of the summer holidays where I had no cover for my eldest daughter, and they had no problem with her coming to work with me (in fact my boss even brought in a video player for her to watch videos.) I have only been with them for three months and have recently had to have 5 days off due to my daughter being ill, and they have barely batted an eyelid.
I dont know if this is typical of employers, maybe other people can comment?
