Hello,

My family wishes to move to new zealand permenantly however finding jobs is what is stopping us and we dont have alot of time left since my dad is 55 in november and after that year we will be unable to apply.

My dad is a mechanical/maintenance engineer with alot of experience however most jobs require that your currently in new zealand so you can go to interviews however he cant just up and go over for interviews if he isnt guarranteed a position because of the cost and loss of work while over there.

My mum would also need a job but any job would be fine as it would help by giving an extra 10 points.

So whats the best way to find companies that are able to help with the sponsorship of moving over and dont require you to be in the country for interviews etc? (someone we know managed to do this but we didnt get any details from them)

Also am i able to add to our points for moving over since i have a degree or i will do next year?

Thank You!

Hi there,

The bottom line is, how much does your dad want to move? you certainly sound enthusiastic. I intend to move this year, (assuming I get my blue stickers) with my wife and 2 kids 11 and 12. I will have no job to go to, I am putting faith in my own abilities and that I WILL get a job. Some may say I'm daft and reckless, especially when I have 2 young kids.
I did travel out 2 months ago myself to see what the job market in IT was like, I'm satisfied that I will find a job; also it allowed me to decide what area I would live in. (North Shore)
Good engineers, I would assume from what I have experienced, are desirable to employers, so get your dad on a plane to satisfy himself or just say "Sod it life's to flaming short" and just apply. Like you said the clocks tickin.

Go for it
