Hi,

I've been reading this forum for a while and would like to say hi and thanks.
It's really nice source of information about the country which is so far far away.
We are couple 29y old with 1 year old girl from Saint-Petersburg.
I'm an IT guy (network, unix, storage) and my wife is a microbiologist with experience in extremely clean lab/production work.

We plan to land in Christchurch next year depending on PR processing time.
It's not a close timeframe so just looking around and collecting information about life in NZ for now.

I would be glad to hear some words about successful remote IT job search and about job market for microbiologist/laboratory engineer/researcher in Christchurch.

Hello and welcome.

The picture for IT job searching remotely is a mixed one, it helps if you have PR without a job offer as you can use this to prove to potential employers that you are not only serious but heading towards being in country in the near future. But a number of people have found it very difficult to get a job offer without being in NZ already, so it does vary

Afraid I know nothing bout microbiology though :)

Hello and welcome,

I also work in IT and to be honest although I made a half hearted attempt to get a job before I got PR, the response is always "it's better if you are here". So now that I have PR I am getting a much better response, but I am not going to rush into taking a job, I am hoping to set up lots of interviews for when I get there.
Thats the plan anyway...

Good luck!

Thanks all.

I've never been to NZ, but internet is a great source of information. After reading several forums and blogs I feel like I've been to it many times.

dusk, vic11, thanks for info. I came to the same conclusion after sending several CV and having negative responses. So I plan to organize reccie trip early next year for job hunting. I've already collected long contact list of IT companies in ChCh
And I'm still have a hope to persuade my current employee to relocate my position to NZ (it's benefit about work in international corporations - they have offices in all countries)

there is one more family on the way from crowded city to rural areas, from apartments to own house, from crime to law and safe environment...

P.S. Feel free to pm me if you see any mistake in my messages. I'm still working on my english gramma and would be glad to improve it.

No problem :)

Your English seems excellent, you could perhaps use the words 'the' and 'a' a few more times (such as "the info", "a reccie")

The very best of luck with all your plans.

By the way, nobody can PM you yet. When you have made 5 posts in total you will be able to send and receive PMs.

I see one important mistake in your last post - be careful of the difference between 'employee' (someone who is employed) and 'employer' (one who employs an employee).

Thanks! There are no arcticles in russian at all so it's pretty untrivial task even knowing all rules. It's too complicated to think about every usage - it have to be somewhere in submind. I reread my favourite sci-fi books in english and it helps a lot with programming this info :-)

Thanks, JandM! Direct reply is fine too. And looks like this reply would allow me this option. :-)

Yea, that's one of the words I mix all the time, thanks for catching this. They look so similar
Sorry to all, I can't edit post right now, edit button does not work in opera mobile browser and it's the only way to internet for me for next 2 weeks while I'm on vacation.
Anyway it's really nice to have this technology option - to discuss things on the other end of earth sitting in the deep bush far from the city.

Hi Anatoly!
Frankly speaking, I'm highly disappointed with russian NZ and Canadian forums (e.g. narodnz), that's why I'm not an active participant there. People usually are not too much friendly there. I'd like them to learn from this forum how to communicate and to help each other! But... let them be!
What's the status of your application? Have you already got an ITA?

Hi all!
I'd just also like to add, please feel free to correct my mistakes! English is not my native language, but I'm trying all the time to improve it! :)

Yea, it's hard to find useful info on russian forums, all are filled with negative emoutions...

Nope, I'm far away from this, still waiting for NZQA reply. My plan A was to get job offer from current employer by relocating my position to one of NZ offices. It was supported by my manager, but my manager's boss declined this request and I'm going forward with plan B: qual recognition, submitting EOI, reccie trip for job hunting and so on.
