Beds??

Hi, sorry if this question has been asked before but after trawling through previous posts to no avail I thought it would be easier to ask.
We have had 3 shipping companies in this week for quotes. We are planning on buying our two boys new double beds to take with us as they currently have cabin beds which are going to be to small soon.
One piece of advice they have offered is instead of paying to ship beds over why not buy them when we arrive in NZ, and as we are planning on renting this would mean we would have our own new beds to sleep in, saving us shipping costs as well. My question is then if you haven't already guessed is can anyone give me some ball park figures for the price of double beds including mattresses so we can compare prices to here and work out the best way to do it.

Thanks D&J

Destination Tauranga. Flying out on the 26th Jan 2009. Still very nervous!!!!!!!

We bought a Queen size bed and drawer chest with two night stands (all wood) with a queen size mattress (low but decent quality) on sale for $1100 NZD just about a month ago.

We got our bed from Farmers but I can't remember how much it was (and we got it in the sales). From what I saw there isn't the same sort of range of cheap beds in New Zealand as the UK but the ones they have here are more comfortable.

The other thing to remember is that bed sizes are different here. A UK king is an NZ Queen and an NZ Double is a UK Queen. I think that doubles are the same though.

Decent quality beds (especially mattresses) are pretty expensive here, even on sale....although there is lots of choice. There is very little choice of cheaper beds and mattresses however.

I'm certainly off to Ikea somepoint before the shippers come (4-5th Sept). I just looked at home delivery costs  Cost of bed, £88, cost of delivery, £80!!! Can I trust myself to only buy the bed and nothing else though :exit

OH and I will more than likely be buying our bed once we arrive.

We shipped our bed as it was only a couple of months old and is a memory foam one (lovely). But we have bought two queen beds here for about $700 a piece and everyone who has slept in them say they are the most comfortable beds ever! They were bought from Furniture Warehouse in Taupo who are brilliant.

We bought a double bed, single bed and bunk beds with mattresses and pillows thrown in for around $1800 - if I remember rightly the double was around $600.
