So I applied for a job with the Ministry of Social Development, for a position with in Study Link... They emailed me saying that since I can't work in NZ that they can't process any further "unless you advise us any different. Are you in the process of applying for a work permit, residence??"
So does this mean that they are interested but can't do anything because I can't work there?
Was it just a courtesy email?
Is it a good thing that they wanted to know if I was in the process of getting PR?

Sounds like they are interested or they would just have emailed thanks, but no thanks. :nice1

Hi Mrs Pony! In our experience I have to say "Who knows?"
We were determined that Andy would secure a job within their prison service before we started on the immigration process. Well, it took more or less exactly a year for that to happen, and in that time we've had some very positive messages from the Dept of Corrections HR dept and a few individual managers, but all in all the underlying message (IMHO) was 'if you come over here we're interested in you'. We've found it difficult to find someone brave/desperate enough to take a chance on actually offering a job.
But it can and does happen and my best advice would be keep on trying, but meanwhile try to remain positive and enjoy your life as it is. Sometimes easier said than done I know.
All good wishes!

I doubt if they've examined the app in any detail yet - no point unless they know you are pursuing a visa.
