I'll have to try that one then!
And Monteith's Radler (I think it's Monteiths...) is good too - got a hint of lemon and tastes really summery - another one to recommend!
Spot the alkies on this forum, eh! Recommending good wines and beer at every opportunity!!
Happy drinking!

Interesting thread - One of our reasons to leave Oz is that they can't make decent beer!!! Gives us hope that NZ beer will be better!!! In fact the best beer you can get out here (not from Europe) is Stein Lager - is this a fair representative of NZ beer ?

Couldn't agree more - all Monteith's beers are excellent.
Wasn't too impressed with Steinlager, especially compared with the excellent microbrews.
Wellington Brewing Company (http://thebrewerybar.co.nz) , anyone? Love their Sassy Red and Sultry Dark Porter.... :cheers

On my third Radler at the moment, I drink them like Lemonade! I find Monteith Summer too spicy, its ok but if I have a choice its Radler any day.
Jodie, Carol and other Wellingtonians, have you been to Rumble's wine shop in Waring Tayler st yet? He's got a fantastic range of non supermarket wine (and beer) just got 2 argentinian rose's for $25 and he's really good value personality wise.
The wheat beer from Wellington brewing co is called Verboden Vice and yes it is really rather good.
:cheers to all of you I'm off to beer no4

PS. Had job interview today and have no idea how it went. Had the nerve to ask for 80k salary which is my excuse for all those beers on a work night!

Miep,
Rumble's wine shop in Waring Tayler st
We were wondering where people buy wine in Wellington. We saw a Liquor King (name?) but thought that might just be for hard liquor, not beer or wine.
Any other stores to recommend?
Verboden Vice
Ah, yes, that was it! And they were playing some fabulous blues music when we walked in. It was our first day in Welly and the sun was shining and we stopped and had a beer there and watched kids jump into the harbour! What a welcome to Welly, eh? :yes

Jo. Do you know if it is possible to get Timmy Taylors here at all.
I have not tried it, but as I am a Timmy and my wife used to be a Taylor, I think we ought to give it a go.
PS. If I ever get the pleasure of meeting any forum members in the flesh, and they should happen to call me Timmy, I am afraid that would be both beginning and end of the friendship.
I am traumatised to this day by "that" name..........AAARRGHH!!! ;)

Just curious -- how much do microbrews generally cost in NZ? In the US, your basic swill (e.g., Budweiser) runs ~US $4 per six pack (12 oz bottles). Micros go anywhere from $6-10. The only NZ beer I've ever seen here is Steinlager.
