I have just booked our medicals in Nottingham. I now feel like retching!! I am sooooooooooo dreading these medicals for some reason, it is so ridiculous!!
I don't know why I have got myself in such a state about them and now I am getting cross with myself for being so worried. neither of us smoke, i don't drink and my husband rarely does. we are both fit and well , even though the gym membership has been neglected by me! We both never are off work or ever ill, so why the hell i am about to pass out at the thought of what the medicals will find!!
Luckily they fitted us in next week, so i will not have to witter myself for much longer. My husband has medicals quite regularly for work/insurance etc, so he is fine with it. I think being a nurse is making me worse; they say doctors and nurses make the worse patients don't they!!
The whole journey just seems to be one stress after another. i think that anyone who gets through the process should be so proud of themselves and all they have achieved. I can see why so many people start the process of applying and never complete it.
For me, these medicals are the biggest hurdles (at the moment!), I am sure NZIS will find something else to make me retch a little further along the way. Shame NZIS don't send vomit bags with ITA!!!!
Think of me!!:exit

Don't panic..... I did, and everything was ok. (I did have to provide additional info, but was cleared and accepted!) With me, I have difficulty with anything I'm not in control of.... :wah not good for the immigration process, but I got through it all and now await the elusive blue stickers:clap..... Good Luck! :nice1

We all panic, Willow. I know what you mean about being a nurse. I deliberately didn't tell the doctor I was one as sometimes they treat you differently. Ours all worked out in the end. Good luck.

Sounds like you have nothing to worry about, don't get TOO stressed otherwise you'll set your blood pressure off or something :D
find something else to occupy your mind until it's time :)

I'm sure that they'll be fine. I was abit panicky before mine - I had no reason to be and it was all fine. Good luck. :D

TBH, if you've got no health problems, it's just a money making exercise for the doctors (IMHO). Our Dr was very nice, but didn't really do anything other than weigh us, check height, dipstick a wee sample and take a few blood samples along with a blood pressure check.
I did worry myself silly over it though, so know that no amounts of "don't worry about it" will stop you :laugh
Good luck.

thank you for your words of support and your own experiences. it is good to hear i am not the only one who has worried before hand.
it is a hoop i have to jump through. feel really bad wittering on about it, i then read the recent posts of "leccylee" and it put my concerns into perspective!! and, also everyone has to do the medical bit, so i need to get my head down and go for it!!
i will keep you all posted.

Phew.....big sigh....the medicals are in the bag!
today we all trooped along to the panel doctors (drs henry at tudor house nottingham www.visa-medicals.co.uk). The medicals were exceptionally well done by a fantastic doctor who put us all at ease. the children are still non the wiser of our plans to go for residency and the staff at both the surgery and the radiologist at the park hospital were very professional about this.
it was so much easier than i thought it would be, even though i was still concerned, yes the doctor was so lovely that before we knew it we were all done and dusted.
we now have to wait to see if everythink is ok, about 2 weeks before all of the results are in. i am not over the fretting stage yet, but at least it is well and truely out of our hands now.
i can highly recommend the people at visa-medicals, edwards lane nottingham and the park for x-rays. probably not the cheapest, but a pleasant experience at a very stressful time.:clap

Hi, I am new to this forum, but like you we are going to have our medicals next Friday,in Shrewsbury, and worrying ourselves senseless. We both have slightly raised blood pressure which is controlled by medication, my worry is that I have had an abnormal smear, received laser treatment in Jan, and had had a repeat smear which has come back as borderline/mild. I wonder if this will delay our application until I get a clear? I couldn't bear that, I need to be with my grandchildren in NZ. Sorry that this reply isn't offering you any comfort, but thought I would add to the other replies that we all are worrying over the unexpected. Good luck with yours, let us know how it goes.

thank you for your post.
i am now in a post medical euphoria phase and able to see that everyone dreads the medicals, not just me!! there is always something that could cause that dreaded hitch. however, in my post medical philosophical state (!!) I actually think the immigration services are really looking for problems that will be a huge payout for their health services. it is interesting to look back at postings about the medicals over the post months or even few years and then look at peoples signatures etc on the bottom to see the eventual outcome of their journey through the immigration process. i am pleased to see that very few people with existing medical complications end up being turned down, even though at the time it was a huge worry to them.
so, that hopefully will mean that you will be with your grandchildren very soon, how wonderful, i hope you sail through the next stages and i will take a look now and again to see how you have got on.
best wishes

Thank you for that willow. I will let you know how we get on, and guess I will be new authority on smear problems :laugh
Family due from NZ next week so I can soon start looking forward to that as soon as the dreaded "M" is out of the way.

Hi Willow,
Just a quick question, how do you know you have passed your medicals? We thought that it was the decision of the INZ assessors, and they could ask for further information anytime during assessment.
We had our medicals Friday, and are still stressed, it would be lovely to not have to worry about that any more.

The INZ assessors only ask you for furhter information is something out of the ordinary shows up on your medical.
Right at the back of the paperwork is a space for the Doctor to write if he thinks there are any significant findings. If he writes nothing here then your in the clear and have passed, whereas if he writes any comments regarding significant findings then you are passed on to the Medical Assessor as a matter of course.
It is then up to these MA's to ask you for further info and decide if you can pass and be signed off. And from my own experience they can just keep on asking and asking and aksing for more info...... time consuming to say the least!
Hope thgis helps,
Claire

when you get the medical paper work returned to you the panel doctor signs off the blood tests etc and at the end he has two box's he can tick. one says no abnormalities or significant findings the other says abnormalities/significant findings. then if you look towards the back of the paper work there is a bit where he/she can write any comments and at the bottom of that page they tick 1)nzi needs to contact them about you or 2)nzi don't need to contact them. The x-rays are also commented on by the radiologists eg abnormal findings or not. you basically get back the wodge of paper work you took into the panel doctor and attached to it are the blood results etc. it isn't stamped on the front if you passed or not, so take a deep breath and have a flick through looking for those box's which are tucked away on some pages at the end of the forms. it is a strange scenario really as you potentially could be faced with abnormal findings and have to stew on that until you can get back to the panel doctor for more tests, which is why there are lots of postings on here about blood test results and what does it mean. I am a nurse and I was struggling to find the actual answer to the question had we passed or not! so, be warned and calmly flick through the paper work before you get into a panic about it all.
Obviously, all of this goes off to the NZI assessors and they have the ultimate decision making capacity, but from our medicals, there is nothing abnormal that should lead them to seek further evidence. our youngest child has dyslexia, but we have been assured that should not cause an issue, but knowing our luck it will!!
hope this helps, good luck, our results were back within 8 days, so you will find out soon, let us all know how it goes.
