We have our mortgage with them, going into the branch itself is like going back in time, they handwrite receipts and only open Mon - Fri... :)

Another building society is Southern Cross.
PSIS are a popular alternative to building societies and offer a few unique services.
They may still pay your bills if you drop off your invoices/bills, (using the money in your account).
Another option that may suit are Credit Unions.
