Our secondand far more scarier than the December one!
I did get Kyle out of bed, bruised all my leg trying to get across bed. Had been in bed since 9.45, Steven was watching tv.
I just couldnt get across the bed for the shaking, my heart is still pounding!

Hope youre ok ? Know what its like experiencing youre first one.

Oh Sharon! you poor thing. I just don't think I'll sleep tonight! It was scary indeed. I take it that was a big one - 5.9 on the richter scale.
We're fine though. We knew they happened just didn't know what to expect!

Birds started tweeting and guinea pigs started squeeking here a few moments before the rumble. Scariest one I have felt so far.

The one in December was 6.8 but never as bad as tonights 5.9!
Obviously closer/deeper.

Cant get back to sleep, heart still pumping!

Just checked Geonet site and apparently an after shock 11.35pm of 3.5 but never felt it thank god!

Was asked by a neighbour if we felt it down here this morning - must have been snoring my head off i never noticed a thing! :o

Try and remember the earthquake drill - in fact souldn't it be part of the ITA to know it!! :D

STOP, DROP, AND COVER

Kev had never heard of it - the last one at christmas he came running in from the workshop all excited in the middle of it - and i told him off for moving whilst it was on!

Hope everyone is Ok and no damage! :)

Hi..

It was quite scary as we were asleep and we didn't get a warning ...... just a loud rumble noise... and the house shaking! Like the previous posts I think this one was scarier than the Dec one. This one was a short sharp jolt! Didn't seem to rumble for long!

Haven't scrambled out of bed that fast in ages! Checked on the kids who were awake and wide eyed! Checked on the puppies, they were over excited and took a while to calm down and go back to their bed!!

Then about 10 mins later there was a small after shock!!

Something to write back to the rellies about!

Papers said tonight about $5.2 million worth of damage! Apparently still accessing damages and the Earthquake Commision advise people to haev good look around property as they give you 30 days to make a claim.

Said worst one in years as it was inland not offshore like the Gisborne one in December was

Eventually got to bed 2am that night, freaked me out big time!

Went to local Pack n Save last night to pick up few bits, they had lost so much wine off their shelves it was unbelievable - they had banners up trying to hide the empty shelves!

Hope no one had any damage ?
