Hi, I have a valid work visa/permit and i'm waiting on my PR appllication under the SMC category.

If I do find another job, can I apply for another work permit/visa with the new employer and then put in my resignation. I guess what i'm asking is, is it all right to apply for a work visa/permit with an employer other than the one you're working for.

A little confused about the process. My work permit is specific to my employer and not an open work permit.

Check out the thread switching jobs on a work permit (http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?p=207862) in particular, you are most likely to want to request a variation of condition on your permit.
