Best tihng to do about selling the car before we leave?

Hi all,

Was wondering, could anyone advise on what you did about getting rid of your car and timing it all right before you left the UK?

We would ideally like to sell our car a month or so before we leave and cancel our car insurance etc. We have a friend who can lend us their car for a month but I've just been looking at car insurance quotes which will cover us short term such as 1 month and they seem to be really expensive.

Has anyone else had similar experiences in the past or can advise on the best and cheapest way of going about it?

Thanks

Tony

Could you not just transfer your existing insurance to the friend's car for that last month, and have it end when you hand the car back?

Yeah never thought of that one, I'll give them a call now

I'm transferring ownership to a friend, who will sell it on Ebay for me. Car's not worth much, so it doesn't matter if I don't get every last penny of its value.

We did exactly what you're doing! OH sold the car back to the dealership we'd bought it off and dropped it off the day before he flew out. I then borrowed a car off a friend and insured it via Norwich Union's Short Term Insurance which didn't work out all that expensive. I guess it depends on the car, the drivers, where the car is stored etc.

Good luck getting it sorted.

Thanks, we have decided to go for the Norwich Union option - it works out about £130 for 28 days cover so a lot cheaper compared to the other insurance companies we have looked at.

Cheers
